Mini Cooper R50 Hidden Menu

I've got an 04 Cooper S JCW, last night I started it up and none of the back lights on the dash will light up. The radio powers up but there is no sound and the climate control system does not work. The indicators work but there is no "tick" or light to say they're on. Everything else is fine. Totally bizarre. R50 Mini models were powered by a 1.6-litre,16-valve, Chrysler-supplied Tritec engine. The Cooper was powered by a retuned version of the same engine delivering 115hp at 6000rpm, along with 110lb ft My problem is the display on the Rev counter that displays the outside temp / Range / mpg used etc etc. I have not seen it working until yesterday where it came on briefly after I had detail cleaned it. The display has a back light but no figures, I have checked the 4 fuses in the passenger compartment which are all fine. Get in the car and do not press the brake or clutch pedal. Now insert the key and press the start button to turn the car on, but do not start the car. Look at the tachometer and wait until the oil change service light goes out.
